HMD Guest Series: AYLS

We asked fellow collaborator AYLS to send over a couple songs she can't stop playing. Here's what she gave us!

AYLS is a LA-based songwriter and singer. Check out her latest release with HMD, “Fetish (HMD Re-Edit)” on Soundcloud and Spotify.

Sabrina Claudio - “Unravel Mel”

I just discovered Sabrina Claudio and now I overwhelmed by envy, which for me is my highest form of praise. I love everything about what she’s doing. Her voice is effortless, but the music and arrangements are complex.

HAIM - “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (Cover of Shania Twain)

I loved this song when it was first popular with Shania Twain, and I find this HAIM cover to do it justice. The acoustic version brings it some new life, and the sound is rich and organic.

Nsolo - “Hush”

Just stumbled upon Nsolo on Soundcloud; he’s got a great voice and vibe. Looking forward to hearing more from him.

Niia - “Hurt You First”

This track is funky and incredibly artful. Niia is one to watch as she has been making a name for herself the last few years with thoughtful, beautiful, jazz-inspired music.

James Vincent McMorrow - “Surreal”

JVM is a staple in my rotation. I covet his falsetto and secretly wish it were mine. I love the reverb in this track; it adds so much space and drama to what seems like a simple arrangement.

HMD Guest Series: Peter Daily

We reached out to friend and fellow collaborator Peter Daily for his top 3 songs (very hard to do...we know)...Not only did he come back with some great ones, but he also gave us a peak into some of his own songs! Check him out.

Paul McCartney - "Maybe I'm Amazed"

Being a big McCartney fan this might be my favorite song from him. It's a straight forward love song and on this live version he kills it vocally.

Peter Daily - Seven More Days

This is one of my favorite songs that I've written. I had the pleasure of working with guitarist Brian Ray (Paul McCartney) on this one.

Gabriel Garzon-Montano - "Crawl"

A girl called Tasha introduced me to this Stonesthrow artist. Gabriel is piano player like myself so I appreciate the chord progressions and feel. Real funky tune.

Peter Daily - Without You

I had just been in a bad break up while in Orlando Florida. The girl left me for another and after I ran into her and her new guy I went home and wrote this song.

MuteMath - "Break the Fever"

This song is off MuteMath's new album "Play Dead." I've known these guys for a while now and I'm always impressed with how the take rock and roll and blend it with funky pop sounds.

Big Red Machine

Do you love Justin Vernon and Bon Iver? Do you love Aaron and Bryce Dessner of the National? Check out their new project Big Red Machine— named after none other than the Cincinnati Reds.

Born from the idea of continuing to break down the rigidity of the music industry, Vernon and Dessner earlier this month launched a new collaborative platform called PEOPLE. So many awesome artists to pique your interest and help you discover some new sounds.

A Playlist for Your Revolution

In January, a community based pop-up art show took over a warehouse space in the downtown Los Angeles area bringing together some of the most talented artists, musicians, and activists working for us today.  The themes of the show were based around topics of "Justice as a Human Right", "Together We Rise", "No Human Is Illegal and No Human Should Feel Unsafe", "Love, Peace and Empathy", "Manifesting Solutions", and "This Moment in History."    With powerful exhibits and moving panels, this was a positive and humbling event that lead those who participated to question their part in today's call to action.

I was lucky enough to DJ at this event and put together a playlist of some of the songs I played.
